Bio:Hmmm, I haven't updated this since before my wedding, in April of 2005!! Maybe it's time.

I joined Livejournal to keep track of my workouts. I wanted to use it mostly as a personal journal as a way to keep track of where I've been and what I've achieved. It was also a great way to keep me honest, forcing me to admit when I fell off the the bandwagon.

My first goal in working out was to lose the 20 lbs I put on since college. Other than American Kenpo (a street fighting martial art), I'd never been very active. I tried running, and other sports growing up, but the competitive spirit was never really in me, and I always found some reason to quit.

After college, I got a job, and soon started traveling every week. This wreaked havoc on my eating habits since I was stuck eating out 3 meals a day, 5 days a week. And if I was on a project with multiple co-workers, it was doubly bad, because dinners would always involve some sort of beer or wine. Every time I was on the bench (at home for any period of time) I would lose 5-10 lbs, only to quickly put it on again as soon as I got a gig.

Two years ago, I started a new job that didn't require any travel. Since then, I've been trying to wean myself off of eating out. Although I haven't been fully successful, I have gotten to where I eat at home for the majority of my meals. It definitely helps that my husband is a wonderful cook.

In November of 2006, I decided to get serious about training. I had taken up running a few years back, but was never very serious or regular about training. Up until then, I had managed to get to where I could run for 3 miles in 40 minutes. I started walking with a few friends, as they were gearing up their training for a 100k hike in the area. After realizing how great I felt after long workouts on weekends, I decided I wanted more.

I signed up for the Army 10 miler and the Nike Women's Half marathon to motivate me to train more regularly. Then a friend of mine (Hi Connie!!) found out about a local Triathlon training group. And the rest, I guess is history.

I'm now part of Team Z (http://www.triteamz.com), have finished out my first season by running my 2 5ks (one of them was my first race ever), a mini-tri (250m swim, 4mi bike, 1.4mi swim), an Olympic AquaVelo (1000m swim, 40k bike), a sprint distance (750m swim, 17mi bike, 5k run), a full Olympic (1500m swim, 40k bike, 10k run), an International (1000m swim, 29mi bike, 10k run), the 6.1mi leg of a marathon relay and two half marathons.

My long term goal is to finish an IronMan some day (hopefully in 2009, but I'll have to see how I am after my first few races), and in the mean time, train for a few Sprint, Olympic and Half Iron Man distance races.

Since starting with TeamZ, I've actually put on weight. I've been reassured that it's muscle, but I'm not too positive. Either way, I'm pretty happy where I am, now. I'd still love to lose the weight, but I'm more concerned with having enough energy and endurance to finish my races.
